Phanto-Piano
Touchless Musical Keyboard
Phanto-Piano is a prototype created during a Hackathon, a four-hour design competition. The device allows the user to play musical notes by waving their hands over the device. It features seven ultrasonic range finders connected to a Teensy 4.0 microcontroller. Each sensor detects the user's hand and is programmed to play a different note in a major scale by sending MIDI signals to a DAW, Audiotool. The distance of the user's hand is also mapped to the octave of the note played.
Stages of the prototyping process.
Phanto-Piano connects to a Digital Audio Workstation, Audiotool, to create its music.
